What Really Happened to John McAfee?

    Author: Felix Mollen

    Last Updated Nov 13, 2019 @ 14:41

Events of late have turned the public’s attention to no one else but John McAfee. His campaign manager recently took to Twitter, noting that McAfee had been in the dark for a few days, and suggesting that he and some “companions” had been detained by authorities. Today, the founder of McAfee Associates confirmed that he’d been released from confinement.

    John McAfee Held in Custody?

A few days ago, the campaign manager for McAfee’s 2020 presidential run, Rob Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Loggia-Ramirez, posted to Twitter using McAfee’s official account. He noted that he had reasons to believe that the presidential candidate and certain “companions” had been detained by authorities, as the last time he’d spoken with McAfee was when his famous Freedom Boat was being boarded.

(1/4) This is @loggiaonfire again. I have good reason to suspect that John McAfee, @theemrsmcafee and other companions have been detained by authorities at their latest port of call. I will be operating this account providing updates as they become possible.

What followed was a series of Twitter posts detailing the overall situation. Now, it’s important to note that McAfee officially stated that he’d be exposing corrupt figures in government.

Back in June, he tweeted that he had “collected files on corruption in governments. For the first time, I’m naming names and specifics. I’ll begin with a corrupt CIA agent and two Bahamian officials. Coming today. If I’m arrested or disappear, 31+ terabytes of incriminating data will be released to the press.”

This brings us to a couple of days ago, when Loggia-Ramirez mentioned the data in question following McAfee’s detainment.

(3/4) If John misses his next check-in, events will be set into motion that I cannot prevent once they have begun. John has secreted data with individuals across the world. I know neither their identities or locations. They will release their payloads if John goes missing.

The following day, Loggia-Ramirez provided yet another update on the situation, saying that he had finally established contact with McAfee, his wife Janice, and his crew. He confirmed that they’d been safely released and that they were on their way to another location as they’d been forced to leave his Freedom Boat.

    McAfee Confirms Confinement

A few hours ago, McAfee appeared to have taken back his own Twitter account and confirmed that he’d spent four days in confinement.

Leaving detention (don’t judge my looks – four days of confinement). I was well treated. My superiors were friendly and helpful. In spite of the helpful circumstances, we’ve decided to move on. More later. pic.twitter.com/V4539uYCHR

No further information is available at the time of this writing, and the reasons for his detention remain unclear.

However, McAfee has made his stance clear when it comes to paying taxes. He has publicly stated – more than once – that he hasn’t filed taxes in 8 years. Additionally, he has waged war on the US government, hence why he’s in exile.

This is also the reason why the veteran entrepreneur will lead his 2020 presidential campaign from a boat. We have yet to see how his plans will be affected by the latest developments.
