Sacramento Kings’ Players to Receive Salaries in Bitcoin, Said the Team’s Owner

Employees and players of the NBA giant - the Sacramento Kings - would be able to receive as much of their salary in BTC as they want, said the team's owner.

Bitcoin continues to dig its way into the National Basketball Association (NBA) as the Sacramento Kings have doubled down on their support. The team’s Chairman and CEO, Vivek Ranadivé, informed earlier in a Clubhouse appearance that everyone in the organization could start receiving their salaries in BTC soon.

Bitcoin Dribbles into the Kings’ Salaries

Based in Sacramento, California, the Sacramento Kings are a US professional basketball team and a member of the Western Conference Pacific Division. The organization has shown a pro-Bitcoin approach for years as it was the first NBA team to introduce BTC as a means of payment for tickets and merchandise in 2014.

During a recent Clubhouse appearance reported by Forbes, the Kings’ CEO, Chairman, and Governor, Vivek Ranadivé, announced another major milestone in connection to the primary cryptocurrency.

He said that all employees in the organization could soon start choosing whether they would like to receive their salaries in the form of bitcoin instead of the dollar.

“I’m going to announce in the next few days that I’m going to offer everyone in the Kings organization, they can get paid as much of their salary in bitcoin as they want, including the players.”

Another NBA-bitcoin endeavor occurred last year when the Brooklyn Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie raised $25 million in BTC from fans and allowed them to pick his next team.

The first-ever cryptocurrency has also made its way into another popular sport in the US – the NFL. Carolina Panthers’ Russell Okung receives half of his salary in bitcoin through a partnership Zap.

Mavericks and Dogecoin

The Dallas Mavericks, owned by the popular entrepreneur and crypto supporter since recently Mark Cuban, has also displayed pro-crypto behavior. The Mavs introduced BTC payments a year after the Kings – in 2015.

After a rocky relationship and a few critiques from Cuban, the team doubled down on its relationship with the cryptocurrency industry earlier this year. However, this time it wasn’t just bitcoin – it was Dogecoin.

After a massive popularity boost the meme coin received following endorsements from Tesla’s Elon Musk, Snoop Dogg, and other celebrities, the Mavs started accepting DOGE payments for tickets and merchandise.

On the question of why his team has chosen precisely Dogecoin, Cuban emphatically answered, “because we can.”
