Ozzy Osbourne Forays into the NFT Space With ‘Cryptobatz’

    Author: Chayanika Deka

    Last Updated Dec 28, 2021 @ 10:37

2021 has seen individuals from the rock and metal realm jumping on the NFT bandwagon. This time it was the Prince of Darkness – Ozzy Osbourne, himself.

Ozzy Osbourne has announced entering the crypto industry with the launch of his very own NFT collection – Cryptobatz. He is paying tribute to one of the most iconic (or bizarre as some may say) moments in music history.

With the NFT debut, the former Black Sabbath singer now joins a long list of proponents that includes American heavy metal bands – Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold – among others.

    Ozzy Enters NFT Space

Osbourne’s tryst with bats isn’t new. His latest NFT collection is a reference to his infamous bat-biting incident that dates back to his Iowa live performance on January 20, 1982. Following the incident, Osbourne claimed that he thought the bat was a toy tossed by an audience member. But the “batz” in his NFT collection, however, is one-of-a-kind.

Osbourne revealed that he had been trying to “get it on the NFT auction” for quite some time. It was only after many failed attempts of buying one that he decided to create one. He was quoted saying,

“I’ve been trying to get in on the NFT action for a while so when I asked Sharon for a Bored Ape for Christmas after several failed attempts of buying my own, and she said no, I decided to create my own.

CryptoBatz is a fucking mental project for NFT collectors and fans. The design pays tribute to one of my most iconic onstage moments and is a chance to acquire a rare piece of art history. I love it!”

According to reports, the ‘CryptoBatz’ range will feature 9,666 unique NFT bats and will be released in January 2022. Meanwhile, the NFT collection’s pre-sale is open now via the CryptoBatz Discord channel. Interested users will be able to mint up to three non-fungible tokens per digital wallet after public minting goes live in February next year.

    It’s All About Batz

The music legend’s NFT collection is anything but mundane. CryptoBat comes with a twist that demonstrates a solid representation of the almost four-decade-old incident that is imprinted in the minds of metal fans across the world.

Each CryptoBat will be able to “bite” another NFT in a user’s digital wallet. It does not stop there. The owners will also be able to mutate Cryptobatz with other collections and create new NFTs called “MutantBatz.”

These ‘MutantBatz’ will enable users to integrate with NFTs from prominent players in the space such as Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), SupDucks, Cryptotoadz among others.

As part of the NFT release, Osbourne will also launch a treasure hunt, dubbed ‘AncientBatz,’ that will enable the holders of CryptoBatz to look for tokens across the globe. After discovering, the AncientBat non-fungible tokens will have the ability to bite other tokens up to 100 times as well as breed 100 MutantBatz.
