The world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange has appointed Greg Monahan – a former US Treasury Criminal Investigator. Monahan will serve as Binance’s new Global Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
- The company announced its latest hiring in its attempts to comply with global watchdogs in a press release shared with CryptoPotato.
- It explained that Monahan has a 30-year of experience in credit government service, with a large part being as a US Treasury Criminal Investigator. He was responsible for tax, money laundering, and other similar financial crime investigations.
- Additionally, he has led international investigations resulting in the takedown of notorious cyber criminals and terrorist organizations.
-
“Binance has a strong culture of putting their users first, from providing market-leading products to supporting high-profile investigations that help make the crypto industry a safer place.” – noted Monahan.
- He further explained his future role, which will include striving to expand the company’s international anti-money laundering (AML) and investigation programs. Also, he will focus on strengthening Binance’s relations with regulatory and law enforcement bodies.
- As previously reported, the exchange has already faced scrutiny from global watchdogs on numerous occasions. As such, it had to halt some of its services, such as futures trading in several countries.
- Binance CEO, Changpeng Zhao, touched upon Monahan’s role as a former US Federal Law Enforcement Investigator, which is the primary reason why the exchange feels confident that he will bring a “wealth of AML and investigations experience” to the firm.
- The former GMLRO, Karen Leong, who held the position since 2018, will remain at the company as the Director of Compliance.
